While the man who best pulls off the adamantium-clawed superhero is still currently prepping for the third installment of the Wolverine franchise, Hugh Jackman recently revealed to Vanity Fair that he’s unsure as to whether he himself will return as the titular character!
When asked outright about a sequel, Jackman admitted that he is not ready to make a commitment to future X-Men movies:
I don’t know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That’s exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn’t reach those, I won’t be doing it.
The thesp also said that there isn’t a script for the sequel yet, and it could be some time before another standalone Wolverine flick surfaces:
No there is not but Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it’s a way off.
Not great news, I think we can all agree… And it’s probably safe to assume that if he’s not sure about The Wolverine sequel, then he’s probably also hasn’t made a decision on appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse either.
