Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan team up to bring you a darker Superman

When the planet Krypton is destroyed, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) manages to send his son to a planet far away: Earth. More precisely: Kansas. He grows up as a mere human named Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) but all the while struggles with his differences from everyone else. When a mortal threat to Earth becomes apparent, Clark must decide what type of man he is going to become. Cavill has promised a more modern, humanized depiction of the classic protagonist. Michael Shannon plays General Zod, the prime villain of Man of Steel. The character was also featured in Superman II, where he was played by Terence Stamp.

The darker direction of this movie was surely influenced by Christopher Nolan who is a producer on the project. Nolan turned the Batman franchise into a phenomenal success with the Dark Knight trilogy after it suffered the terrible artistic and commercial blow that was Batman & Robin. Director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, Sucker Punch) is known for his hyper-kinetic style and will definitely bring an energy to the Superman franchise that has never been seen before.

Snyder has described his version of Superman as being completely different to any past adaptation: “When we started working on the movie, the thing we decided was the comic character existed. The movies are their own thing. We had to act as if no movies had been made.”

Nolans favorite sound collaborator Hans Zimmer has also been brought on board to provide a film score that will trade the famous superman theme song for something with a grimy edge.
