Langston Hughes inspirational musical gets a modern movie version

Young Langston (Jacob Latimore) is sent to live with his estranged relative, Reverend Cornell (Forest Whitaker) and his wife Aretha (Angela Bassett) in New York City. But the crafty Baltimore kid cannot stand the strict rules of the Reverend, and decides to head back to his mother (Jennifer Hudson). On the way home he learns a lesson or two about faith and family…
