Joss Whedon brings a Shakespearean follow-up to The Avengers

Legendary director Joss Whedon whose smash-hit The Avengers became the third highest grossing film of all time earlier this year, is set to return with a low-key adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Billed as a modern retelling, Whedon’s take on the story of sparring lovers Beatrice (Amy Acker) and Benedick (Alexis Denisof) was shot entirely on location in Whedon’s own Santa Monica house in just twelve days.

Much Ado About Nothing is the first feature film from Whedon’s new production company, Bellweather, which emphasizes the importance of DIY filmmaking and inventive narrative. Shot in black and white, the film is also set to star an ensemble cast including Nathan Fillion (Waitress) as Dogberry, Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) and The Avengers star Clark Gregg as the governor of Messina, Leonato.

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012, Much Ado About Nothing has a limited release on June 7, 2013, followed by a wide release on June 21st.
