Quentin Tarantino finally delivers spaghetti western, receives five Oscar nominations

When bounty hunter and German gentleman Dr. Schultz (Christoph Waltz) frees slave Django (Jamie Foxx), the two men strike a bargain: Django will help Schultz track down the evildoing Brittle Brothers, in exchange for Schultz assistance in the search for Django's enslaved wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington). This leads the unlikely partners to confront brutal plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), whose notorious estate 'Candyland' sees slaves battle each other in sporting matches.

In classic Tarantino style, the film references are sure to be endless. Sergio Corbucci's classic spaghetti western starring Franco Nero (who is set to cameo in Django Unchained) is of course the most obvious inspiration. Unlike previous Tarantino films, Django Unchained will not be edited by Sally Menke who passed away in 2010 of a heart attack.

Django Unchained won a Golden Globe ofr Best Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino).

The spaghetti western received five Academy Award nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Christoph Waltz), Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing and Best Cinematography.
