Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain on the request of the wizard Gandalf the Grey. Accompanied by a group of Dwarves, he seeks to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, taken by the dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). Along the way, he meets the creature Gollum and comes into possession of a curious ring which holds unexpected power that is tied to the entire fate of Middle-Earth. Peter Jackson's highly anticipated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novel will begin with this film, continue with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and end with The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
