Ancient myths revived in this modern day tale of possession |
The Possession is loosely based on the story of the infamous Dybbuk box, which, as Jewish folklore has it, is said to contain an evil possessing spirit. Script writer Stephen Susco found inspiration for the film when he read an LA times article about the ebay auction of the box. The film's young protagonist, Em (Natasha Calis), gets more than she bargained for when she asks her father to purchase an antique box which she found at a yard sale. Her parents, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick, begin to notice increasingly strange and erratic behavior from their daughter as she becomes more and more attached to the box. Finally it becomes clear that their beloved has become possessed by a demonic force and they must find a way to save her. With veteran horror director Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) taking on a producing role, The Possession taunts audiences to fear the demon that doesn't fear God! Directed by
