Sonya (Marion Cotillard), a young Polish woman immigrates to the US along with her sister. Unfortunately, circumstances lead her to seek help from sleazy Bruno Weiss (Joaquin Phoenix) who forces her into a world of prostitution and drugs. Her salvation may come in the form of Bruno's cousin Orlando (Jeremy Renner), a magician, promising a better life.
