L.A. Confidential meets The Untouchables with an all-star cast!
Set on the gritty streets of 1940s Los Angeles, Gangster Squad chronicles the LAPD's battle to curb organized crime in the city. Directed by Ruben Fleischer () and written by Will Beall, Gangster Squad is based on the true story of notorious mob boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) whose control of police and politicians is the stuff of West Coast legend. When a crew of hardened LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) try to win back the streets, a gun-slinging showdown ensues. The seedy underworld so famously brought to screens in will once again set the scene for this tale of corruption, drug trade and gambling. Which side of the law will prevail?
Originally slated for a September 7 release, Warner Bros decided to postpone the film for re-shoots due to a scene involving a movie theater shoot-out. The decision came following the Aurora, Colorado massacre.
