Peter Greenaway pays homage to filmmaking pioneer Sergei Eisenstein
Legendary British filmmaker Peter Greenaway () will pay homage to Soviet pioneer Sergei M. Eisenstein, whose contribution to film history with such early masterpieces as Battleship Potemkin and Strike is widely considered to be unsurpassed. Eisenstein in Guanajuato is set to depict the Russian filmmaker's trip to the titular Mexican city in 1930 while researching for the unfinished Que Viva México! The time spent in the silver mining town was reportedly highly influential for the filmmaker, who fell both deeply in love and began to question his ideological beliefs upon being confronted by non-European thought. Production is expected to begin in Mexico in September this year.
