Evan Rachel Wood runs away to the circus in this unique 1930s romance
This period romance follows the beautiful, day-dreamy and penniless Flora Plum (Evan Rachel Wood) who runs away to the circus with a mind to become a star performer. Once there, she meets the talented outcast Jake, whose hairy body has gotten him stuck as a mediocre sideshow act. When the two team up for a 'Beauty and the Beast' style act, romance and rivalry take the center ring. The film gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the treachery and competition that lurks beneath the smiling, glitzy veneer of the circus world, as well as delivering a fascinating story of love, ambition, and betrayal amid a wonderland of freaks.
A labor of love for director Jodie Foster, the script for this long-delayed project comes from Steven Rogers, who is something of an authority in the romance genre having written tearjerker favorites like Stepmom and P.S. I Love You.
