Domestic problems propel the Iranian husband (Ali Mosaffa) of a French woman (Brnice Bejo) to go back to his home country. When his wife contacts him to ask for a divorce, the husband returns only to find another man (Tahar Rahim) in their home. The Past is described as an 'emotional social thriller.'
The French drama had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2013.
The Past finds director Asghar Farhadi, who won an Socar for the Iranian drama A Separation, teaming with The Artist leading lady Brnice Bejo. Acadamy Award winner Marion Cotillard was originally cast in the role before being replaced by Bejo.
