Neil LaBute returns to his roots in this acerbic relationship drama
Blonde beauty Velvet (Alice Eve) is relaxing in her apartment one morning when there's a knock on the door. Fred (Stanley Tucci), a middle aged man, is stood there, suitcase in hand - he's finally left his wife and is ready to be with her. All the stuff of cliché except for one small detail - Velvet hasn't seen him for years. Oh, and another: she's having an affair with Fred's married son.
The subject of troubled male-female relationships marks a return to his roots for director Neil LaBute, whose past three films (Lakeview Terrace, The Wicker Man, Death at a Funeral) encompassed a wide range of issues, from racism to a murder, but ultimately flailed to hold the attention of audiences and critics.
