Halloween 2016 is fast approaching, and if you're like me, you still don't have an idea for a costume. We all know that the best Halloween costumes are up-to-the minute pop culture references, and 2016 has given us plenty of material to work with. This list compiles 10 Halloween costumes which references movies, TV shows, games and internet jokes from 2016, all of which are sure to raise a few laughs at your Halloween party of choice. Enjoy, and let me know which one you'll be dressing up as in the comments!

10. Netflix and Chill

'Netflix and Chill' is an internet joke that originated in 2015, but became totally mainstream by 2016. Just about everybody knows what 'Netflix and Chill' is by now, and the best part about this costume is how easy it is — just take a look at the above picture!

9. Tarzan

You may have forgotten this by now, but the Tarzan reboot was released earlier this year! Despite it's mixed critical reception, dressing as The King of the Jungle is still a killer idea. All you need is a pair of trousers, some flowing golden hair and enviable abs — if you've got muscles you're willing to show off, give this costume a go.

8. Snapchat Filters

I know Snapchat has been around since 2011, but 2016 was the year that creative filters totally took over the world. Don't be surprised to see lots of girls going around sporting our favorite Snapchat filters like the two above!

7. Judy Hopps

Zootopia (or Zootropolis) wasn't just one of the best animated movies of the year — it was one of the best movies of the year, full stop. It touched on real-life problems, such as; racism, sexism and bullying and made Judy Hopps as one of the most inspirational characters of the year. Judy Hopps cosplay has already taken Cons by storm — expect to see Hopps at a Halloween party near you!

6. David Bowie

Unfortunately, this year we lost one of the greatest musicians of all time — but his legacy lives on. Everybody recognizes the iconic looks from Bowie's heyday, and I'm sure we'll see lots of fans paying homage to him this Halloween.

5. Deadpool

We always see people dressed as Deadpool at various Cons, but the amount we'll see at Halloween this year will be at an all-time high. The film came out earlier year, and the character amassed a lot of new fans who will be dying to dress up as the Merc with a Mouth.

4. The Joker (Jared Leto version)

In 6 of the last 8 years I dressed up as the iconic Heath Ledger Joker for Halloween, sporting the mouth scars, long green hair and purple suit. This year, we get a new Joker to imitate, in the form of Jared Leto's Suicide Squad Joker. This costume is totally different to the one in The Dark Knight; to achieve this look, you'll need to draw lots of tattoos, spray your hair green and — if you're really committed — shave your eyebrows off. Toplessness is optional!

3. Rey (The Force Awakens)

This costume would've been quite popular last year also, but with The Force Awakens being released last December (after Halloween), I can only presume that we'll see a lot of Reys going around this Halloween too. At Comic-Con this year, it was really cute seeing little kids dressing up as their role-model Rey, who really is the most bad-ass character from The Force Awakens.

If you're into the idea of dressing up as a badass queen of pop culture, take some inspiration from the women in our video below:

2. Harambe

There's no way of predicting what the internet will find funny, and this year's surprise was the love for Harambe, the gorilla that died earlier this year. The love for him on the internet is nothing less than mind-boggling, and there will definitely be a huge array of people going as Harambe.

1. Harley Quinn

Let's be honest, you knew this was going to be number one. This year for Halloween, don't be surprised if you turn up at a party and see 4 or more Harley Quinn impersonators. To be fair, as a girl it would be fun to replicate the hair make-up and if somebody is dressed as the Joker then you've got a really cool photo opportunity!

If you're thinking of Harley-ing it up for Halloween 2016 and are looking for some inspiration, we recommend...

So they're the 10 costumes I'm sure we'll see a lot of this year. I think I may go for the David Bowie costume, but I'm unsure. Let me know who you're dressing up as in the comments below!
