It's the news that rocked the internet. Famous actress, UN special envoy, and humanitarian Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from her star husband, Brad Pitt. The internet is utterly in a state of shock. Fans of the couple are just itching for answers as to what happened between one of the most famous modern celebrity couples.
Many are asking: What will happen to their six children? The less sensitive among us are already wondering if we'll ever get to see Brangelina together on-screen again. Well, not necessarily — but it's certainly not impossible. Many famous couples have worked on projects together after they split, and some even maintain a productive working relationship! Below I have compiled a list of other celebrity couples that continued to work together (whether by choice or by force), even after they broke up.
1) Helen Bonhem Carter and Tim Burton
Having been a dynamic duo since 2001, it is almost impossible to imagine one without the other. Together, they brought to life some of the greatest and darkest tales in modern cinema, including Alice in Wonderland and Sweeney Todd. Even after their surprising divorce in 2014, the dynamic duo refused to part professionally, and worked together on the recently released Alice Through the Looking Glass. It seems some things are just meant to be!
2) Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
Although it might sound like something out of Game of Thrones, Hall and Carpenter played siblings on Dexter, and were lovers in real life. A promising relationship blossomed between the two co-stars, which led to marriage in 2008. Sadly in 2011, they filed for divorce, but due to the huge popularity of Dexter, the two were forced to continue working together until its finale in 2013.
3) Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult
Even superheroes are allowed to fall in love, right? Well, that's how the story goes for X-men co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. The two had gotten together while filming X-Men: First Class, and although they did't last too long, they still worked together for the multiple sequels that followed.
4) Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony
Having spent almost a decade of their lives together, many thought that J-Lo and Marc Anthony would be indestructible. Sadly however, after 7 years of marriage, the two got divorced in 2014. In August of this year though, the pair reunited on stage; J-Lo later confirmed the pair were working together once more!
5) Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake
For four years, these A-listers were the star couple fans looked up to. Unfortunately, in Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake broke up in 2007, making fans believe they would never work together again. But Hollywood is smaller then we fans believe, and the two stars once again worked together in 2011 film Bad Teacher.
6)Blake Lively and Penn Badgley
Thanks to all the steamy scenes between Dan and Serena in Gossip Girl, it seemed like the relationship between co-stars Blake Lively an Penn Badgley was destined to happen. Sadly, after three years the couple broke up. The couple may have parted ways in 2010, but Gossip Girl didn't end until 2012. Even after the fires of passion had been extinguished for the couple, they had to fan the flames of intrigue on the show for a further two years. Can you imagine having to pretend-marry your ex for work? When you think about it like that, the clip below takes on a whole new dimension of awkward...
7) Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco
The Big Bang Theory co-stars Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco shared a two-year low-key relationship behind the scenes, whilst their characters were moving ever closer on our television screens. While fans are still cheering for Leonard & Penny on screen, in real life, they are no more. However, the brave pair refuse to let their fans down and continue to work together in one of the greatest shows currently on TV.
So, will Brangelina take it full circle and say goodbye where they first met: on set? Although such situations can be extremely awkward, the plucky pairings above prove that it can work. Finding that perfect chemistry between actors can be challenging; regardless of their personal lives, nobody can deny that Brad and Angelina sizzle together on screen. Plus, ex-couples working together can work; perhaps they'll find post-split working harmony, like Helena Bonham-Carter and Tim Burton, or rekindle the romance like Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. This is Hollywood, after all — anything can happen!
