Much to the delight of #StarWars fans in galaxies near and far, far away, the release of the franchise's first standalone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is rapidly approaching.

In the final weeks leading up to its release, Lucasfilm is doing it's best to generate excitement for the upcoming film with a strong marketing campaign that highlights everything we loved about the original trilogy.

Today, the studio released an incredibly heartwarming featurette that serves another sneak peek at what's to come in Rogue One and hits us right in the feels.

Check it out below.

If that doesn't warm the cockles of your heart like the inside of a Tauntaun on a cold Hothian night, then I don't know what will.

At the helm of Rogue One stands lifelong Star Wars fan Gareth Edwards and the film features performances by an A-list cast including Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.

Gareth Edwards On Set

The sweetest line of the day clearly goes to Edwards:

"If I'd known since I was 4 that I was going to be shooting a Star Wars film, I would've planned it all my life."

Edwards goes on to describe the plot as simply as it an be stated, saying, "That text you see at the beginning of #ANewHope. That is, essentially, our movie."

No Shortage Of Action

Given the size of the cast and the amount of action in the released footage so far — coupled with the fact that we don't know how these new characters will fit into the Star Wars universe in upcoming films — I have a bad feeling some of these new characters aren't going to make it.

I'm planning to bring a box of tissues on opening night just in case.

Darth Vader Is Back!

Well, we already knew that. But it still doesn't make James Earl Jones's iconic role reprisal any less exciting.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in theaters on December 16.
