The Marvel Cinematic Universe is chock full of some truly great battles. Some are massive in scale, others are smaller, while some pack big emotional punches. The amount of fights throughout this franchise could be listed 'til the next phase starts, so here is a pick of some of the best ones (contains spoilers).

1. Rocket And Groot Vs. Prison Drones (Guardians Of The Galaxy)

In eager anticipation to help escape from prison, Groot (with his childlike innocence) starts the party by stealing the battery from the guard tower. This kicks off the alarm, forcing the others to improvise with their individual objectives. While Rocket scrambles to join Groot (who's now being assaulted by prison drones) Drax defeats a couple of guards and passes Rocket a gun. What follows is one of the most insane, ludicrous scenes in the MCU as a smart-mouth raccoon, riding a humanoid tree, fires wildly at drones shooting at them.

The whole thing is just another reason why Guardians of the Galaxy isn't just one of the best films in this franchise, but one of the best comic movies ever.

2. Hulkbuster Vs. Hulk (Avengers: Age Of Ultron)

When the Avengers confronted Ultron as he was collecting Vibranium, Scarlet Witch messes with most of the team, giving them haunting visions that subdues them. The worst affected is Hulk, who goes on a destructive rampage through a nearby city. With no lullaby from Black Widow to calm him, Iron Man calls in Veronica. The fight is short-lived but incredible to watch, as the Hulkbuster is able to go toe-to-toe with the green giant. Though Iron Man wins, the ramifications of the battle forces the Avengers into hiding.

Fun fact: The suit is never referred to as the Hulkbuster in Age of Ultron. Its actual name, Veronica, alludes to the Archie Comics character Veronica Lodge. Lodge is the opposite of Betty Cooper who is Archie's love interest. Betty Ross is Bruce Banner's former girlfriend.

3. Captain America Vs. S.T.R.I.K.E. Agents (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

Right before his "assassination" by the Winter Soldier, Nick Fury informed Cap that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been compromised and not to trust anyone. Cap refuses to tell Alexander Pierce of the World Security Council anything Fury may have said, forcing Pierce (who is apart of HYDRA) to send the S.T.R.I.K.E. team after him (who are also HYDRA). Led by Brock Rumlow (the future Crossbones), the team attack Cap in an elevator. Despite being in a small space, outnumbered and has an arm magnetized to the elevator wall, Cap is able to beat 10 agents virtually unscathed.

Cap asked everyone before they got started if anyone wanted to get out. Perhaps they should have listened.

4. Black Widow Vs. Russian Thugs (The Avengers)

After the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters because the Tesseract, Coulson calls Black Widow to tell her to go bring in Bruce Banner. Black Widow, at this point, is being held captive by Georgi Luchkov, a Russian general who had been selling weapons on the black market. Well, at least he thinks Black Widow is his captive. Once Coulson informs her that Hawkeye has been taken she very swiftly breaks free, takes out of Luchkov's men and leaves the general hanging by his ankles.

All while this is going on, Coulson is on hold.

5. Avengers Vs. Chitauri (The Avengers)

Seeking revenge after the battle on the Helicarrier, the Avengers take to the streets of New York to defeat Loki and his Chitauri army. Though the Avengers are initially stunned by the Chitauri's force, the Hulk's resurgence and easy defeat of a Leviathan rallies them together and Cap formulates the strategy to help contain the attack. The ensuing fight is nothing short of brilliant, with all the Avengers working together as a single unit.

Well, almost.

6. Iron Man Vs. Captain America (Captain America: Civil War)

While investigating a HYDRA Base in Siberia, Iron Man, Captain America and the Winter Soldier confront Zemo, who has instigated much of the events of Civil War. He presents footage that shows the death of Stark's parents at the brainwashed hand of the Winter Soldier. The fragile truce between Iron Man and Cap falls apart as Stark tries to get his revenge on Barnes. This turns into one of the most emotional, visceral fights in the MCU as these once close friends turn on each other.

The battle ends with a defeated Iron Man bitterly telling Cap that he doesn't deserve his shield, as his father originally made it. Rogers seems to agree and leaves it behind.

7. Hulk Vs. Loki (The Avengers)

Things weren't looking good for Loki at this stage in The Avengers. The team had gathered together to put a stop to the alien terrorist attack and were doing a fine job of kicking ass. Loki gets blasted back into Stark Tower only to be confronted by the Hulk. Infuriated with his plans falling apart, Loki begins to give a massive passionate speech to the green giant. Hulk has other ideas.

8. Daredevil In The Hallway (Daredevil Season 1, 'Cut Man')

This scene has to get a special mention. Though Daredevil is a Netflix series, this particular fight ranks as one of the best in the MCU. The Devil of Hell's Kitchen goes to rescue a kidnapped child from the Russian mob, defeating nine thugs in the process. Filmed in one incredible shot, the fight is brutal, violent and intense, but above all — it feels human. Taking inspiration from Oldboy, this plays out like a proper fight. Daredevil gets injured and there are no one-hit KO's — something that is all too common in the MCU.

Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones have been great additions to the MCU but scenes like this just cements Daredevil's place in this franchise.

9. Team Iron Man Vs. Team Cap (Captain America: Civil War)

The lines have been drawn and everyone has chosen their side. As Cap tries to get to Siberia to stop Zemo, Iron Man's team comes down to stop him. Cap's own people jump into assist him as one of the biggest fights of the MCU kicks off big time. Cap versus Iron Man, Black Panther versus Winter Soldier, Black Widow versus Hawkeye, War Machine versus Falcon, this battle royale is completely euphoric and a joy to watch. Despite this fight involving heroes instead of villains, this scene is one of the best battles in franchise because of its scale, how it flows, what's at stake, and for Spider-Man's on-screen presence. He may not be completely relevant to Civil War's plot but he's a scene stealer.
