With reboots and sequels constantly being announced, there are many who say Hollywood has run out of original ideas. Reboots like Ghostbusters, The Jungle Book and The Magnificent Seven were prominent films in the news this year, along with a plethora of sequels such as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Star Wars: Rogue One and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Because of all these films, and the announcement of more reboots and movies to come, many people have accused Hollywood of having no original ideas. This is just not true, though. Hollywood rolls out new, original films every week; they are just constantly out-shined by some of the movies with bigger names.

Here are 5 original films that have (or will) come out in 2016...

1. 'The Accountant'

Starring: Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons

Director: Gavin O'Connor

Release Date: October 14, 2016

Ben Affleck wowed us as Batman earlier this year, and now he's wowed us even more as Christian Wolff, the autistic accountant who has found himself on the wrong side of the law. This crime drama is full of both action and mystery as we try to see inside the mind of Wolff and figure out what went wrong in his life.

The best part of this film, in my opinion, is not the action or the mystery, though, but the light it sheds on autism. A lot of people see autism as a disability, which legally it is, but to many it enables them to be different and, in cases like that of Wolff, to be better. It is a fantastic perspective that I did not expect to see in the film.

2. 'Everybody Wants Some!!'

Starring: Blake Jenner, Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell

Director: Richard Linklater

Release Date: April 20, 2016

In my opinion, this might be the best original film of the year. Richard Linklater, who is best known for previously directing Dazed and Confused, brought us yet another fantastic comedy. The entire film takes place in the first weekend before college and is true comedy gold.

While there is not much conflict throughout the plot, the film still manages to include a ton of character development. How did Linklater achieve this? I still do not know. But if you want to experience an amazing hour and a half of pure laughter and enjoyment, check out this movie.

3. 'Kubo And The Two Strings'

Starring: Charlize Theron, Art Parkinson, Matthew McConaughey

Director: Travis Knight

Release Date: August 19, 2016

Stop Motion Animation is said to be a thing of the past, but Kubo and the Two Strings might be enough to bring it back. This film not only features a fantastic story, but it also features a star-studded cast, including Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, and George Takei.

The story follows Kubo, a magical boy who must fight evil — a simple plot, yet beautifully told. It is undoubtedly a film worth seeing if you haven't yet. Even if you don't like stop motion, go see it anyways. You will not regret it.

4. 'Sully'

Starring: Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney

Director: Clint Eastwood

Release Date: September 9, 2016

This one is actually a true story, set in 2009. The film tells the remarkable story of Captain Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his commercial airplane in the Hudson river to save the passengers on board when the engines went out. The film asks the question: was landing the plane in the Hudson the right decision, or would they have been able to make it to the airport?

The drama in this film is truly brought to life by director Clint Eastwood and lead actor Tom Hanks. Many people know the story of the plane landing in the Hudson, but the film takes you into what truly happened in the moment, and the consequences thereafter.

5. 'Moana'

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Alan Tudyk, Jemaine Clement

Directors: Ron Clements, John Musker, Don Hall, Chris Williams

Release Date: November 23, 2016

Next month, Disney will release their second original animated film of the year. If Moana is anywhere as half as good as Zootopia, I am sold. The film will tell the story of Moana, a sea voyager who travels the waters in search of a legendary island. Not Disney enough for you? The film also features a pig and a rooster as sidekicks.

The most intriguing part of this film is that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson co-stars in the film as Maui. I am curious to see The Rock show off his voice acting skills and his singing skills, as he apparently does have a singing role. I'm sure it will be a sight to behold.

Who says Hollywood is out of original ideas? If someone doesn't think Hollywood has anything new, they just aren't looking hard enough. The film industry is stronger than ever. I love watching original films, reboots and sequels alike, and Hollywood gives us plenty of options to choose from.
