Demi Lovato has been in the entertainment business since the early 2000s, appearing in shows like Barney & Friends and Prison Break before stepping into the spotlight with the highly-successful Disney Channel movie, Camp Rock. After that, she pursued a career in music and, as we all know, the former child star turned out to have quite the successful career. Unfortunately, that career is coming to an end. Lovato recently tweeted this out to her 38.8 million followers:

This message may come as a shock to a lot of people, especially her fans. As stated above, Demi has been part of the entertainment industry for over a decade and she did something Disney Channel stars are rarely able to accomplish: Having a successful career and not completely losing herself. Her singing talent has even been praised by other fellow stars, such as Rihanna:

Another one of her celebrity fans is Katy Perry. After Demi performed part of Lionel Richie's tribute during this year's Grammy Awards, Perry had this to say about the singer:

With a career so full of highlights, it's fair to wonder what might be next for the young singer.

Where Does Demi Go After Leaving The Industry?

With her statement about not being made for this medium, it's easy to assume Lovato has no intention of returning to her successful career. The thing is, where does she go after this? Well, Lovato herself has the answer and it's very peculiar. After one fan asked her if she was coming back, this is what the singer had to say:

While it doesn't look like the singer has completely set her focus on a new venture, it's good to know she's considering charity work. Her fame and status will greatly benefit any organization she chooses. Let's also not forget that she already has experience in the field. Over the years, Demi has worked with Mean Stinks, the anti-bullying organization PACER and was part of a video tribute for the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

Hopefully, her expertise in the field allows her deeper dive into the charity world to be a successful one.

Is This Really A Surprise?

While it may seem like the announcement came out of nowhere, it didn't. Demi struggled with drug addiction, depression, suicidal thoughts, bulimia and bipolar disorder for years. One of her most publicized scandals was when she left the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert tour to seek treatment after punching one of the backup dancers. Since then, she's rebounded and seems to be in a better place and is currently on tour:

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Demi opened up about her darkest time: She began self-harming at the age of 12. When she was cast in Camp Rock, she was already drinking alcohol and taking cocaine and OxyContin. Because she was paying the bills, she rebelled against her parents. Of her behavior, Lovato said this:

"I lived fast and I was going to die young. I didn't think I would make it to 21."

With so many struggles deriving from her being in the entertainment business and the expectations she perceived where on her, it's understandable that she doesn't feel comfortable with it anymore. By doing this though, she's unfortunately leaving us with several questions: What happened that made her finally decide to leave the entertainment industry behind? Is she really quitting or will she make a comeback in a few years? Could she be struggling with herself again?

We'll most likely not get answers to these questions but, whatever the reason behind her leaving her successful music career behind is, I hope she remains healthy.
