Wait, it's still not November yet? Well, in just a few short months (less than two) we get to see Stephen Strange battle Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal) in one of Marvel's weirdest projects to date. Quite frankly, that just sounds awesome.
Honestly, this movie might be flying under some people's radar due to the strange nature of the film — and also he's a character that most people are unfamiliar with. I'd recommend reading Jason Aaron's Doctor Strange at Marvel Comics to catch yourself up on how wonderfully crazy Stephen can act sometimes, or just how many weird situations occur if you're the Sorcerer Supreme.
Remember, Marvel has never had a flop at the box office, and I still don't think this is going to the be the movie to make Marvel actually seem somewhat human. Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and plus, I can't wait to see Season 4 of Sherlock (just throwing that out there)! So here are three reasons why Doctor Strange will be another successful hit for Marvel Studios.
1. Perfect Timing
Most of us were sorely disappointed this summer when it came to seeing movies at the theaters. And I'm not just talking about people speaking loudly, or kids crying, but the lack of overall quality movies. I loved Civil War and Star Trek Beyond, and that's pretty much it. Doctor Strange comes out in that sweet spot — when all the blockbusters are over, and we're also not getting bombarded by all the Oscars contenders! This movie will not do Avengers-type-numbers, but I'd bet people will be surprised how much money this makes during its run.
2. Something Completely Different For Marvel
How can one not be excited that Marvel is entering new ground with magic in the MCU? This movie is literally changing the landscape of the Marvel Universe, and I can't wait to see all fantastical things that Doctor Strange conjures with help of the Vishanti! I love Harry Potter and I know this movie is heading towards more of a horror direction with Scott Derrickson directing the movie. At the same time, one can't help but wonder how much stranger things will get further down the road.
Lastly, Stephen Strange might be one of the most powerful people in the Marvel Universe. Seriously, he could take on The Avengers and he might have a chance at winning. Stephen Strange also has one of the biggest hearts in the MCU because of what happened during his car crash. I really do hope that Marvel nails this part of his personality.
3. Infinity War
And yes, I know that having an Infinity Gem doesn't necessarily help a movie leap pass mediocrity (Thor: The Dark World), but it adds one of the last pieces of the puzzle. This really isn't a spoiler, but the Eye of Agamotto is possibly the Time Gem. If this is the case, then we can expect Doctor Strange to play a huge part in the upcoming, Avengers: Infinity War. So basically, you can count on all the long-term fans to show up for this movie — and we all know that there are a ton of fans.
I'm pretty sure this won't draw the same box office numbers as Civil War, but I think it will do a bit better than Ant-Man. There's not going to be very much competition at the box office, and the trailers are giving fans something entirely different to expect in a Marvel movie!. Lastly, Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful beings in all of the Marvel Universe, and I can't wait to see Thanos try to get his hands on the Eye of Agamotto down the road.
