Now, the #Deadpool franchise has never quite gone about things the way you might expect. The first film in the series spent years in development hell over at #Fox, only to eventually find its way to the screen via a cunningly leaked piece of test footage, and a whole lot of wrangling over whether to go for an R rating. And then, rather than making a cosy $300 million or so, it broke a whole bunch of box office records en route to a $760 million worldwide haul, which prompted the rapid fire green-lighting of #Deadpool2, and a whole heap of trouble once the original movie's director, #TimMiller, left the project under a cloud.
With news recently arriving of a new director having now been found for Deadpool 2, though, you might well think that things over in the Merc with a Mouth's corner of the world are finally settling down into a pattern of gently reassuring routine. Except, of course, this is Deadpool that we're talking about, so of course they haven't. Y'see:
Fox Is Apparently Already Trying To Find A New Director For Deadpool 3
Yup, that's right. While #JohnWick co-director David Leitch is now very much aboard the Deadpool 2 train, it seems that he's already scheduled to get right back off again once the sequel is complete. The folks over at Fox, after all, seem to still be looking at Deadpool-related directors, with THR recently suggesting that they're now in the market for a helmer for the gloriously inevitable #Deadpool3.
With that film reportedly set to introduce fan-favorite, grit-filled super-team #XForce to the #XMen movie universe, though, that's perhaps not too surprising. After all, the candidates in question all have a little more experience with grand world-building projects than Deadpool 2's otherwise cannily hired Leitch. Just who are these fine folks who might just step behind the camera of Deadpool 3, though? Well, according to THR, the shortlist currently consists of:
Rupert Sanders, Of Ghost In The Shell And Snow White And The Huntsman
Drew Goddard, Of The Martian And The Defenders
And, last but not least...
Magnus Martens, Of Luke Cage And Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
All of whom would, it seems, bring a greater level of experience with ensemble-based projects to the project than, say, Miller or Leitch, thus making their inclusion on such a list seem eminently sensible. Whether or not they're the director for the job, of course, very much remains to be seen.
