Exciting news for Harry Potter fans: Warner Bros. has just confirmed that the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trilogy has been expanded to a total of, not one, not three, but five movies!
The official Twitter account for the film has confirmed the news on the social media forum.
The film was already set to receive two additional sequels, which were scheduled to be released November 16, 2018 and November 20, 2020 respectively.
Considering that the film was originally conceived as a standalone spin-off, the announcement of a trilogy came as a shock, but to find out that the said trilogy will now be expanded into a full saga? That is an even bigger surprise.
The first installment in the now full-fledged franchise is set to be released November 18th of this year, so the studio must be quite confident in the film to confirm five more sequels before the first even hits theaters — not to mention lead Eddie Redmayne's capabilities, which makes sense considering the man has an Oscar under his belt for Best Actor.
But with the world preparing for Pottermania once again, and the ridiculously successful Harry Potter and The Cursed Child play, Warner Bros and J.K. Rowling know for sure that the world is always in need of more Harry Potter.
Another interesting thing to note from the event is that Gellert Grindelwald will play an integral role in the next four films. As we already know, Grindelwald had terrorized the good people of Europe and the U.K., but by the time Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander gets to New York City, Grindelwald's activities have been somewhat flying under the radar. But his evildoing will be much more to the forefront in the movies to come.
Could he be even worse than Voldemort? I guess we'll find out — and now we have four more movies after Fantastic Beasts to do it.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them hits theaters on November 18.
