There are many great things about being at New York Comic-Con like cosplaying as Harley Quinn, arguing with strangers about who'd slap down hardest in a fight between Hulk and Martian Manhunter, and getting to watch exclusive trailers in an enormous and very hot room full of fellow nerds.
But if you decide not to bankrupt yourself by attending NYCC this weekend, you'll save enough money that you might be able to afford a ticket to John Wick's "social affair," the kind of party before which one visits a Rome tailor. The kind of party at which gangsters have their ass handed to them by Keanu Reeves. My kind of party.
John Wick pretty much came from nowhere to resurrect Keanu's career as an action hero, and the hype around this sequel feels good. More importantly, it looks good — seriously good. Enough talk. Check out the new full-length trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2 below:
Yes, that is Laurence Fishburne cradling a pigeon. I need this movie in my life.
In a post-Spectre, post-Jason Bourne world, we could really use an action hero who simply gets on with the job of kicking ass without taking himself, or the genre, too seriously. John Wick was a straight-up tale of revenge and bloodshed, and this sequel seems to do a stellar job of giving Wick a reason to get back in the game without feeling overly contrived.
The sequel, again directed by Chad Stahelski, keeps Ian McShane and John Leguizamo and adds Ruby Rose, Laurence Fishburne, Peter Stormare and Common. You'll probably be pleased to know that the assassin's new canine friend is present in the trailer. Hopefully this one won't be murdered, 'cos that was one low blow.
John Wick: Chapter 2 is released February 10, 2017. This is one party you won't wanna miss.
