The day someone green-lights a Marvel Zombies Ghibli film directed by Xavier Dolan is the day I will be happy. Any day now...

Those of you who stuck around after the credits of Suicide Squad witnessed a heated exchange between Bruce Wayne and the team's field commander, Amanda Waller. The exchange revealed that Batman needed Amanda Waller's help to assemble the Justice League.

Based upon mutual blackmail, the partnership was far from amicable. But the one thing that became particularly clear by the end of the discussion was that Batman intended to take down the Suicide Squad at any given opportunity.

While Batfleck may have to wait a while before he can pit his Justice League teammates against Harley Quinn's ragtag band of criminals, Bruce Wayne's comic book counterpart will finally have his wish granted.

DC Comics have announced a new Rebirth crossover, titled 'Justice League Vs Suicide Squad'. Debuting in December, the crossover will last six issues, linking with Suicide Squad #9 and #10 and Justice League issues #12 and #13 in January. Joshua Williamson will be the chief writer, while DC's general lord and overseer Geoff Johns will also be involved in development too.

The DC Rebirth initiative has been wildly successful up to this point, leading to unusually high sales and even a monetary victory over Marvel, who had consistently outsold DC since 2013 before Rebirth hit stands.

However, once the excitement over this latest reboot fades, DC will need to find a way to maintain their sales. As always, the answer lies in company-wide crossover events.

With the Suicide Squad movie proving to be a huge success for DC financially and a Justice League adaptation on the horizon, now is the perfect time to fulfil fans' wishes by pitting the publisher's two most popular teams against one another.

In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Williamson explained that the story will mirror Suicide Squad's mid-credits scene, where Batman questions whether Task Force X should even exist in the first place.

Comics have been known to pitch heroes against heroes for fairly illogical reasons, with writers imbuing their characters with pretty flimsy motives. However, as the Suicide Squad is mainly comprised of villains, it's not much of a stretch for DC to pit them against the Justice League in a battle royale that's guaranteed to be fight for the ages.

However, Williamson also revealed that the crossover will explore themes like redemption and corruption, as the Justice League and Suicide Squad eventually put aside their differences to fight a common enemy.

Fortunately, there's still going to be plenty of opportunity to see the likes of Harley Quinn and Batman clash, even if the first image released from the crossover shows the pair join forces. In Jason Fabok's promotional art work, Batman is wearing Deadshot's eyepiece and holding Katana's sword while Harley Quinn has taken possession of Wonder Woman's lasso. I can't help but wonder how these two remained the last ones standing after heavy hitters like Superman and Wonder Woman seem to be out for the count.

Will Justice League Vs Suicide Squad Actually Be Any Good?

The problem with crossover events of this magnitude is that characters can get lost in the mix, as bigger personalities like Amanda Waller and The Flash vie for the readers' attention. Fortunately, the creative team behind Justice League Vs Suicide Squad are fully aware of this potential dilemma, making the conscious choice to flesh out particular characters in more depth;

“That’s been one of the biggest challenges, easily: trying to make sure every character has a moment, but isn’t forced."

In the same interview, Williamson revealed that much of the story would be told through the eyes of Killer Frost, who will join the Suicide Squad as a new member in the coming months;

“We’re going to be doing a lot with her and her point of view in the event.”

If Williamson can juggle all of the colorful personalities in each team, Justice League Vs Suicide Squad could continue DC's winning streak and even become the best-selling Rebirth title yet.

Although we already know that the Justice League and Suicide Squad will work together to take on a common threat, we can't help but speculate who would triumph in an all-out brawl between the two teams.

While the crossover is unlikely to provide us with a clear winner, let's play devil's advocate for a moment and break down who could emerge victorious in a fair fight. In a bid for fairness, each of the following characters have been paired according to either their similar abilities or shared history from the comics. So without further ado, let's get started.

Rick Flag Vs Cyborg

Cyborg certainly has the edge here in terms of brute strength, but Rick Flag is a master tactician and anyone who can keep a handle on the villainous Squad is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Captain Boomerang Vs The Flash

As one of The Flash's most dangerous rogues, Captain Boomerang has been a thorn in the speedster's side for decades. However, when pitted against each other one on one, it's hard to imagine the Aussie villain taking the Fastest Man Alive Down with one of his signature boomerangs for long.

Deadshot Vs Batman

This one is an extremely close call, but if Deadshot took the Dark Knight on without his usual moral restraint, the mercenary could very well put a bullet between Batman's eyes before he even has time to grab his utility belt.

Harley Quinn Vs Wonder Woman

Harley Quinn may be the most important character in the DCEU right now, but even her insane unpredictability is no match for the sheer power wielded by the Amazonian Princess.

Killer Frost Vs Jessica Cruz

Both characters can create physical constructs made of ice or energy, so they're evenly matched in this respect. Green Lantern's power may be ultimately stronger, but Killer Frost's ability to draw moisture from the air could potentially circumvent any defensive measures that Jessica takes.

Killer Croc Vs Superman

Killer Croc and Superman may be the powerhouses of their respective teams in terms of brute strength, but the reptilian villain would clearly be no match for the Last Son of Krypton.

Katana Vs Aquaman

Both Katana and Aquaman are skilled at hand to hand combat, wielding an impressive sword and trident respectively, but the King of Atlantis is physically stronger and possesses a wider array of abilities that could edge this fight for him.

Enchantress Vs Simon Baz

As one of the most ruthless members of the Green Lantern Corps, Simon Baz has impressive willpower that could help him take on the Enchantress solo, but in a fair fight, her otherworldly abilities would lead to her ultimate victory.

As each of the aforementioned pairs were pitted against one another in a theoretical vacuum, it could be argued that some of the fights are uneven, so in the interest of fairness, here's one last battle that could settle the debate once and for all.

Justice League Vs Suicide Squad

Justice League may have the edge in terms of sheer power, but the Suicide Squad's willingness to play dirty shouldn't be underestimated either, making this an extremely close fight to call.
