To put it quite plainly, 2016 has been a colossal shit show for Taylor Swift.

This year alone she broke up with long-time boyfriend Calvin Harris, was mocked for her picture-perfect romance with Tom Hiddleston and now, doesn't even have Loki to lean back on after the budding beach walk enthusiasts parted ways after just three months of parading around in the spotlight.

Oh, and then there was the fact that she got very publicly struck down by USA's equivalent of royalty, Kim Kardashian, over her remarks about Kanye's "Famous" lyrics:

Indeed, things aren't looking good for ol' Swifty right about now, which is why the following might just be her silver lining as far as celebrity feuds go.

Yep, it seems that long-standing frenemy Katy Perry is willing to bury the hatchet with Taylor. Recently, when a fan tweeted the singer asking her if she would ever collaborate on a track with Swift, the world received the following response:

Woah!

The two ladies have been solidly throwing word shaped daggers at each other for over two years, and quite honestly, some might even struggle to remember as to why in the first place. Remind yourself of what got that beef between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry really brewin' with the brief recap below:

1. A Big Blowout Over Tour Dancers

Despite the fact that it could have been a man that came between the two ladies (they both famously dated John Mayer), their spat actually started over something else. In 2014, apparently three of Taylor's tour dancers left her "Red" tour earlier to join Perry's "Prismatic" world tour.

2. Taylor Swift Talks To Rolling Stone

Later on in the year, Taylor admitted to Rolling Stone that she did in fact have a frenemy in Katy, saying:

"For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?' [Then] she did something so horrible. I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business."

She continued:

"She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational—you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it."

3. Katy Perry Fires Back!

A day after Taylor's interview hit the press, Katy made a sassy Mean Girls reference. The claws are well and truly out:

Later, in a 2015 interview with Billboard, Katy also went on to say:

“If somebody is trying to defame my character, you’re going to hear about it.”

4. It's Official, There's "Bad Blood"

Perhaps in what can be the most epic declaration of beef in the music industry, Taylor then released her chart-topping single "Bad Blood" with heavy allusions to the fact that the lyrics were about Perry. Meow!

5. 'You Know It Used To Be Mad Love'

Katy then did what any reputable starlet would do and poured perfume over that raging fire by revealing that her new fragrance was called "Mad Love." Y'know, clearly a direct reference to Swift's "Bad Blood" lyrics:

"Cause baby, now we've got bad blood / You know it used to be mad love / So take a look what you've done / 'Cause baby, now we've got bad blood, hey!"

A harmless coincidence? We think not.

6. Katy Gets Involved In Taylor's Spat With Nicki Minaj

During the summer of 2015, Swift got herself into quite a pickle with Nicki following the VMA nominations — Minaj wasn't named as a contender for the Video of the Year award and took to Twitter to rage about the snub. Tay Tay (who was nominated for nine awards) got her knickers in a twist and thought the anger was directed at her, saying:

And to make things next level awkward, Katy Perry piped in with:

7. Calvin Harris Confirms Feud

Following his break-up with Taylor, Calvin Harris unleashed a torrent of rage at his ex-girlfriend (for which he has since admitted to regretting) after it was revealed she helped write his banger with Rihanna, "This Is What You Came For."

Calvin called her out for trying to "bury" Katy, saying:

"I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it."

The tweet didn't go unnoticed by Katy who immediately put forward her say on the matter with perhaps the most awesome gif of them all:

So, there you go. Whether or not Katy will be receiving an apology soon is still unclear, but one thing is certain — the ball is totally in Taylor's court now. Make your move, girl.

Do you think Taylor Swift should say "sorry" to Katy Perry?
