The day someone green-lights a Marvel Zombies Ghibli film directed by Xavier Dolan is the day I will be happy. Any day now...

For weeks now, American Horror Story has pumped out over 25 disturbing trailers designed to scare and intrigue audiences in equal measure, teasing the final theme for Season 6. However, with the release of each new promo, things have become more and more confusing.

After initially hinting that children will play a prominent role in the upcoming season, Ryan Murphy and his team have taken us on a freaky chase, revealing that only one of the new teasers contains the real theme. Of course, this approach sent fan speculation into overdrive, leading some to theorise that all of the teasers represent an overarching Hollywood theme and even that they each contain links to previous seasons.

Leaked set photos hinting at a Croatoan theme only complicated things even further — then, Rotten Tomatoes went ahead and labelled Season 6 as 'The Mist' briefly before taking the potentially spoilerific title down. It's almost as though the entire campaign has been one huge misdirect — the latest promo featuring Lady Gaga seems to suggest this is the case.

Is 'Perfect Illusion' The Real Teaser?

Every single promo for Season 6 of American Horror Story has now been shortened and compiled into one short 30 second clip which features Lady Gaga's new song 'Perfect Illusion' in the background.

Check the video out below for some rapid-fire scares.

While the clip technically doesn't reveal anything new, the title of Lady Gaga's latest single is rather intriguing and is even used to caption the video at the end;

“Has it all been a Perfect Illusion? The truth is revealed Wednesday. #AHS6.”

Based on this latest reveal, it's hard not to suspect that the entire promotional campaign that's had the internet sleuthing for weeks now has actually been one elaborate misdirect.

But What About The Official Sweepstake?

Sure, there is the sweepstake to consider, which allowed fans to vote which one of six chosen teasers was the genuine article. However, there's also a chance that Murphy's team may just enter every single name into the final raffle to appease angry fans if none of these six trailers are real.

If this entire American Horror Story campaign is just a perfect illusion after all, then this unprecedented approach may backfire on the show. After all, it's likely that such a revelation would disgruntle the majority of fans who have been invested in trying to figure out the theme for Season 6. However, if it turns out that one of the promos is still genuine after all, our money's on Camp Sight, explaining the Croatoan disappearance away as an alien abduction.

Fortunately though, we don't have to wait much longer for an answer, as American Horror Story will finally return to our screens on September 14.
