(Warning: The following contains multiple potential - albeit entirely unproven - spoilers relating to the future direction of the DC Extended Universe, and several films within it. Proceed with whatever level of caution your faith in unsubstantiated internet rumor suggests is wise...)

Now, when it comes to superhero movies (and, come to think of it, pretty much everything else, too), the internet has long been a source of gently murmured rumblings, loosely fact-related speculation, and, every so often, outright scandal-inducing gossip. Much of which, of course, is soon revealed to be completely made-up, and simply the result of rogueish online types conjuring up plausible-sounding make-believe in order to screw with us (or, on occasion, garner some cheap clicks).

Sometimes, though, the internet also provides a giant, steaming pile of actual, honest-to-goodness, bonafide leaked information - the sort that actually has some bearing on the objective reality in which the (for instance) superhero movies in question are being made. And, so, while we're inevitably all now thoroughly jaded by the terrible odds of that actually being the case, it's tough not to still live in hope that one day - one day - the rumors will turn out to be true.

And, so, let's take a look at the latest batch of implausibly detailed superhero-related rumors, since, somewhat excitingly...

The Latest DC Rumors Tease Man Of Steel 2, Green Lantern Corps Details...And An HBO Series?

Someone get that man a razor, stat! [Warner Bros.]
Someone get that man a razor, stat! [Warner Bros.]

Yup, that's right - the latest set of online rumors - fresh from Reddit, via 4Chan, no less - would seem to suggest that a whole lot of DC-themed excitement is coming our way in the near future.

So much, in fact, that it seemed worth breaking it down into bite-sized thematic sections. First up - and it should be noted that all of this comes verbatim from intrepid Redditor MrMxyzptlkO_o - then?

It Sounds Like The DCEU Could Be Set For Some Fan-Pleasing New Projects

OK, fine, fan-pleasing projects AND Metal Men. [Warner Bros.]
OK, fine, fan-pleasing projects AND Metal Men. [Warner Bros.]

With the rumors suggesting that:

"Booster Gold is still in the works, treated more as a Deadpool February release film. No production date set.""Metal Men being eyed as a start for animated DC movies. If Lego Batman is successful, Warner plans to push forward development and Warner Animation Group will create the movie.""Sandman movie currently being developed. Giving it as much time as it needs to develop. Could very well be canceled. Joaquin Pheonix approached after Joseph Levitt left.""Sam Raimi being courted to direct a DCEU movie.""100 bullets still in development, although will not at all be marketed as a comic-related movie. Will have the Vertigo banner, but will be along the lines of Kingsman. Was envisioned as a “Sin City” type film, but is currently now a singular story. Will focus on one man’s story with the gun, and have appearances throughout by the Minutemen and the Trust.""George Miller attracted to making a Jack Kirby property movie, working on Mad Max sequel in-between potential DCEU movie."

Can anyone say 'New Gods'? [DC Comics]

Meanwhile, in good news for fans of Superman:

"Man of Steel 2 is happening, Snyder not returning to direct.""Green Lantern Corps will be an adaptation of Sinestro Corps War. Will have Guy Gardener, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan as the only human lanterns. Red Lanterns won’t appear but will be teased.""WB wants to keep a 3-year release schedule with solo movies for A-listers . Wants to keep diversity in the lineup and keep filmgoers interested without being fatigued. On DC Animated movies, plans are to increase production to 4 movies per year. Doing “event” animated movies with a limited theater release ala Killing Joke will probably happen yearly.""Old scripts being revitalized as animated movies might still happen. Batman Beyond script by Boaz Yakin has been floating around.

All of which would, if true, add up to one hell of an upcoming movie slate.

Such intriguing additions, however, must of course take the place of other projects, meaning that...

If The Rumors Are True, A Whole Lot Of Big-Name Projects Won't Be Happening

Someone may sadly have to wait for a Teen Titans movie after all. [DC Comics]
Someone may sadly have to wait for a Teen Titans movie after all. [DC Comics]

With some of the high profile casualties seemingly set to include a Justice League star...and its director:

"Snyder no longer wants to return to direct JL 2, has opted out. Plans to direct a smaller scale movie for next project.""Cyborg currently up in the air. If he's a breakout character in JL, he will get a movie, if not, it'll be repurposed.""Legion of Superheroes canceled. Deemed “too early” to be developed.""JSA was originally being worked on, expected to be teased in Wonder Woman with them being in WWI instead of WWII heroes. The idea was scrapped due to it not fitting the general plot of Wonder Woman. It was decided to relegate these characters to the CW shows.""Darkseid could potentially be saved for JL 3, having more background development in other movies for New Gods and Apokolips. New Gods property being heavily eyed as a film."

Well, would you look at that. The New Gods. [DC Comics]

Some of the 'cancelled' projects, however, are now reportedly being re-envisioned as TV shows:

"Lobo is currently up in the air, being eyed as a potential TV series set in the DCEU movie universe.""Fables Movie adapt canceled. Currently being eyed as a television show, although worried it may draw the comparison from Once Upon a Time. Up in the air if it will happen or not."

Which makes sense, seeing as...

DC's Content Is Apparently Set To Make A Big Move Towards 'Premium' Television

You know nothing about the New Gods, Jon Snow. [HBO]
You know nothing about the New Gods, Jon Snow. [HBO]

With the big beneficiary seeming set to be the also-Time Warner-owned HBO:

"WB wants to make a few “in-universe” tv shows for the DCEU, multiple smaller teams and smaller characters being eyed. WB wants these shows to be “premium cable” type shows akin to Game Of Thrones""The Question being developed for HBO as a smaller scale “gritty noir” show.""Scalped being worked on by WGN network. Was held up with Doug Jung working on Star Trek movie. Jung expected to show run the series. Geoff Johns wrote the pilot."

Which is perhaps all a little too good to be true, but let's roll with it for a moment, as we finish up with a look at what all of this rumor means for one of DC's most eagerly anticipated and existentially questionable future projects. After all...

It Seems That Suicide Squad 2 Is Still Very Much Happening

Much to the surprise of some. [Warner Bros.]
Much to the surprise of some. [Warner Bros.]

And, what's more, it might well be arriving with a shiny new villain in tow:

"Suicide Squad 2 production begins soon, Ayer started writing the script in July, expected to shoot late-spring 2017. Will reportedly be dialed back from SS1, with less CGI, a more human threat, and no pop music at all. Slightly lower budget.""Deathstroke no longer in the works. Ayer wanted to use him in Suicide Squad 2, will have an antagonist role."

Which, while directly conflicting with current rumors suggesting that Deathstroke will be the main antagonist in Batman's upcoming solo movie, is still a pretty neat idea.

The only major problem?

There's Absolutely No Reason To Believe That Any Of The Above Rumors Are True

Sorry, Clark. [Warner Bros.]
Sorry, Clark. [Warner Bros.]

After all, they come from an entirely unsubstantiated source on 4Chan, and are yet to be confirmed by any widely reputed sites or journalists. Which means that while they could be true, there's no particular reason to give them any more credence than you would idle gossip from any other unnamed unofficial source (except for your aunt Shanice. You should always listen to her).

Want some not-so-idle gossip you can believe? Check out:

Which is, of course, a massive shame, since many of the rumored projects and revelations above would make for great news were they to be confirmed. It's just still a little too early to start celebrating...

Though apparently no-one told Bruce Wayne that. Sing it, Bats!

What do you reckon, though? Will any of the rumors above actually turn out to be true? Let us know below!
