New York Comic Con was the forum for many anticipated films to drop their first trailers. However, all of those others pale in comparison to the power that is Nicolas Cage playing Gary Faulkner, who looks like he is impersonating Nicolas Cage. That's right folks, the Army Of One trailer has just dropped and it looks like Cage has finally found the role he was born to play.

Thanks to the fine folks at Entertainment Weekly who maintain the exclusive trailer release, we get our first look at Cage playing Gary Faulkner — the man who tried to assassinate Osama bin Laden by himself. Why did he attempt this insane feat? Well, because God told him to. That may sound crazy, but for a real taste of crazy, go ahead and stare into the eyes of insanity by watching the trailer here:

The official synopsis for Army of One is as follows:

Gary Faulkner (Cage) is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God (Brand) telling him to capture Osama bin Laden. Armed with only a single sword purchased from a home-shopping network, Gary travels to Pakistan to complete his mission. While on his quest, Gary encounters old friends back home in Colorado, the new friends he makes in Pakistan, the enemies he makes at the CIA – and even God and Osama themselves. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rainn Wilson, and Paul Scheer also star in this hilarious tale of patriotism and one man’s quest for justice.

So, why are we only hearing about this film now? A couple of reasons could be deciding factors in why we haven't heard much buzz about this film. First-off is the director: Larry Charles, who also directed Borat and The Dictator. These titles were not the most well received by critics, although Borat garnered huge fan approval.

Another reason would be the ever-looming presence that is, Nicolas Cage. We've heard the jokes about how crazy he is, and though they may be dipped in a bit of truth, the fact is that the man works. His IMDb page has him listed as having 85 acting credits. Keep in mind that these are mostly all films, and he stars in four to six of them per year. A lot of these projects are not very good, so it is easy to see how a new Nicolas Cage movie gets thrown in the "who cares" pile.

The Gary Faulkner story certainly is a strange one. He actually attempted to travel to Pakistan multiple times (once by boat) with the specific goal of killing Osama bin Laden. He was obviously unsuccessful in the assassination, but he actually was successful in traveling to Pakistan. Once he arrived, he went in search while brandishing a sword. What was his motive? True blue American patriotism and God giving him a direct order.

As an added bonus, go ahead and check out a interview Faulkner on The Late Show With David Letterman from 2010:

The amazing thing about this film and the events that inspired, is that Nicolas Cage perfect for this role. Faulkner's actual persona melds perfectly with Cage's public persona. It's a never ending loop of life imitating-art-imitating-life. Hopefully it will be half-as-good as we hope it is. While you're waiting you can watch Wicker Man and develop a phobia of bees.

Army of One is hits theaters November 4, 2016 and until then, stay crazy! As always sound off. Are you excited about Army of One? Do you think Nicolas Cage is still a good actor? Let it be known in the comments below.
