Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Arrow Season 5, Episode 7 "Vigilante." I mean it, you might run into some rogue vigilantes, and no I'm actually not talking about Vigilante.

This week's episode of Arrow was undoubtedly one of the show's strongest in quite some time. Not only did we get introduced to the violent and vengeful Vigilante, we also saw Oliver Queen squaring off against Dolph Lundgren's character in the flashbacks. But nothing could have prepared us for the major twist that concluded the episode — Artemis is working with Prometheus.

Did any of you really see that coming? Because I certainly didn't. Evelyn Sharp's allegiance with Prometheus is something that could end up having a great deal of influence on the show moving forward. Now, we're undoubtedly going to be watching her very closely every time she appears on screen. But does this revelation give us a hint as to who Prometheus really is? And just what else does Artemis' alliance with him mean for the show?

Is Prometheus Really Sportsmaster?

While there is actually a Prometheus in the DC Comics mythology, Marc Guggenheim has assured us that Arrow's sword-wielding archer isn't that character. And this always left his identity up for debate. However, this shocking twist may actually point towards Prometheus' true identity. And the man under the hood may actually be, Sportsmaster.

In the comics, Sportsmaster has no problem using his sports skills to commit crimes. Much like Prometheus, he has perfected his craft and can be very deadly when necessary. But the reason why Sportsmaster may actually be Prometheus, is down to the fact that Sportsmaster's real name is actually Lawrence Crock — Artemis's father. Granted, in the comics, Artemis's real name was Artemis Crock — as opposed to Arrow's Evelyn Sharp who only uses the codename Artemis — but there's still a strong possibility that Sportsmaster may be the man under the creepy hood.

It was the acclaimed animated series Young Justice that put the archer version of Artemis on the map — Artemis Crock was originally Tigress in the comics — and the series also explored the character's relationship with her father Sportsmaster. Artemis actually ended up forming an unholy alliance with Sportsmaster at one point, so it's possible that Arrow could be using this as inspiration for the current storyline.

Of course, Arrow is renowned for changing things up a little, and we were already told that Evelyn Sharp's parents died in the explosion at Damien Darhk's hideout. However, remember we were also told that Prometheus would be someone from Oliver's past who has come back to haunt him. Could that someone be the person he couldn't save from death — Evelyn's father?

Artemis Is Not Who She Seems

While we were all suspicious of Evelyn last season when she almost inadvertently destroyed the Black Canary's legacy, we have quickly become very fond of her thanks to her heroic role as Artemis this season. So, you can understand why this revelation comes as a major shock to us.

So the question is — who is Evelyn Sharp really? And what are her true intentions? I had really grown to love her this season but now, I can't help but be suspicious of her anytime she appears on screen. This is surely going to change the whole dynamic of the show as we know Team Arrow will continue to trust her, even though she is working with the man who very well could be her father in Prometheus.

Moreover, the shocking ending just proves that Quentin Lance is not Prometheus, and that it was in fact Artemis who framed him. After all, it was Artemis who had the battle with Prometheus on the train in the previous episode — she cut him in the arm, and therefore, knew exactly where to cut Quentin in the arm as well. Was the fight merely a setup between father and daughter in order to throw us off her trail?

This just highlights what Evelyn is capable of. And as none of us really expected her to be working with the big bad — especially after her run-in with him last week — we have to wonder, what else don't we know about her?

Is Artemis Only Playing Prometheus?

Of course, there's always the possibility that Artemis is only playing Prometheus. Unless he's actually blackmailing her into doing feeding him the information, she might be keeping him in the loop in order to keep up to date on his actions. Additionally, if Prometheus really is her father, this would be reminiscent of the storyline between the two in Young Justice, which saw Artemis pretending to work with her father only to get him apprehended.

If Arrow does indeed channel the Young Justice storyline, this would mean that Artemis isn't double-crossing the team at all, in fact she's helping them. The animated series dealt with how Artemis's familial connections caused a lot of people to automatically think the worst of her, and Arrow may be evoking the same reaction from us viewers. After all, they threw us off last week with the Quentin ending, perhaps they're doing the same thing again with Artemis and it might turn out that she's actually playing Prometheus, not Team Arrow. Let's hope so!

Do we truly know Prometheus's true identity?
Do we truly know Prometheus's true identity?

The ending of last week's installment of Arrow was a real shocker that very little of us actually saw coming. However, it may have done much more than just shock us and actually may have just revealed Prometheus's true identity to be Artemis' father. If he is indeed the Sportsmaster character from the comics, it would explain why our beloved vigilante has suddenly betrayed her teammates. However, it could also be argued that she is just working with Prometheus in order to keep a close eye on him.

Whether this has revealed Prometheus's true identity and Artemis's true motives or not, it doesn't change the fact that week's Arrow was a monumental shocker! All eyes are on both characters now, and rightly so!
