We have a problem. Season 2 of Scream Queens is almost upon us, but one important question still hasn't been answered yet.

No, Denise. Not that one. What we want to know is who will the killer be in Season 2? During Comic Con this year, co-creator Ian Brennan revealed very little about the new big bad, simply stating that;

"It’s a different killer this year, the look is different, the color is different."

It looks like the Red Devil is out of the picture then for now, but who does that leave? It's up to us to do some sleuthing and figure out which member of the cast will turn to murder in Season 2. Will it be a familiar face, or a new addition to the cast? Will they call themselves the Pink Devil and rock a new costume, Chanel-style?

Ok, maybe not, but still. As the show runners are keeping their cards close to their chest, it's up to us to figure out the new killer's identity, so crack out a pumpkin latte and join us as we break down all the possible suspects.

Hester

Lea Michele's character Hester is arguably the most obvious candidate. After all, the deranged psychopath was revealed to be the ultimate villain in Season 1. While we know there's supposed to be a new main killer, that doesn't mean Hester couldn't play a part in the murders. However, there's just one problem.

Lea Michele has already confirmed that she's actually working with the good guys this time round, despite accusations to the contrary. In an interview with E! Online, the actress explained that;

“As the murders start to happen [in the hospital], everyone is obviously thinking that it’s Hester again, [But] she's quite adamant that she is not the killer this season, but that she will try and help them figure out who the killer is.”

Instead, Hester's arc this season will parallel that of Hannibal Lecter's in Silence of the Lambs, where her inside knowledge of how a killer's mind works should prove invaluable to solving the murders. That's not to say that Hester will suddenly be all happiness and light though; hence the creepy promos featuring Michele in the horrifying face mask.

Speaking to E Online, Michele also revealed that her character will take an even darker turn than before, revealing that;

"I get to be even crazier this year than I was last year, if you can believe it!"

That's going to be tricky. After all, it doesn't get much crazier than this.

Honestly — Who would ruin good shoes like that?

The Chanels

Things have changed dramatically for the Chanels in Season 2. Sure, the hog-faced sluts actually seemed quite happy about living in a mental institution at the end of the season finale, but three years will have passed since then and it's hard to imagine them being content for long.

During an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Emma Roberts explained that things aren't going as well for the Chanels now:

"They have fallen from glamour. It's really funny seeing them trying to hold onto their style when they have no money."

That's not all though. Roberts also revealed that the idiot hookers will have to face a new challenge far worse than any serial killer:

Could this fall from grace drive any of the Chanels to murder? It's certainly a possibility, although they're usually positioned more as the protagonists, making this change of heart unlikely. Never say never in the world of Scream Queens though.

Dr. Cassidy Cascade

One of the most well-publicized additions to the cast is Taylor Lautner, who will play a new doctor called Dr Cassidy Cascade. Little is known about the hot MD, except that he suffers from a unique medical condition and ends up becoming a suspect when tragedy strikes the hospital.

Is it possible that this 'condition' could be responsible for some psychopathic tendencies? The fact that the show runners have already revealed that Cascade becomes a suspect suggests that he won't in fact be revealed as the killer, although it's hard to imagine him keeping his cool if the Chanels fire some Team Edward puns his way.

Dr. Brock Holt

Joining Dr Cassidy Cascade is head surgeon Dr Brock Holt, who appears to have a few secrets of his own if this Scream Queens promo is anything to go by.

In the trailer, John Stamos' character reveals a rather disturbing fetish — that he sometimes likes to take random patients and start cutting them open for no good reason. If that doesn't scream serial killer, we don't know what does — and that's not even the worst of it.

Holt also just so happens to be the first recipient of a successful hand transplant, taking one that used to belong to a squash player. That in itself shouldn't be an issue, but the problem is that this squash player used to murder all of his opponents, leading us to wonder whether we could be seeing some Evil Dead-style possessed-hand murders when Season 2 airs.

Dr. Mike & Nurse Thomas

Not much is known about Jerry O’Connell’s character yet, aside from the fact that he's a doctor and enjoys wearing green cloaks. However, if you pause the latest trailer around the 20 second mark, you can clearly see Dr Mike and Laura Bell Bundy’s character Nurse Thomas dumping a body into a radioactive swamp close to the hospital.

While we don't know the full extent of Dr Mike's involvement, it's safe to say that him and Nurse Thomas are responsible for at least some of the mysterious events that will take the hospital by surprise in Season 2.

The shiny green cape suggests that Dr Mike could even be trying to emulate the murders from Season 1 by dressing up as his own version of the killer. However, we know that the mystery surrounding the murderer's identity will be a key part of Season 2, so it's unlikely that the show runners would reveal the 'Green Devil' so early on; unless, of course, it's a deliberate misdirect.

The trailers certainly make it look like Dr Mike and Nurse Thomas are involved in the murders, but we think someone else is pulling the strings instead.

Kirstie Alley

This week, Scream Queens announced a high-profile addition to the cast — Kirstie Alley, who's most well known for starring in the hit comedy Cheers and the Look Who's Talking movie franchise. No information has been revealed about her character as of yet and Alley hasn't appeared in any of the promotional material so far.

It seems somewhat suspicious that such a big name would be added to Scream Queens this late, unless of course they wanted to keep her exact involvement on the show under wraps. We wouldn't be surprised if Alley took on the role of a matriarchal figure who oversees the murders, appearing later on in the season.

Of course, we could be wrong, but whatever happens, I'm sure we're already closer to solving the murders than Denise will ever be, even if she is a FBI agent now.
