If you thought the creators of Shrek had finally exhausted all of their green ogre potential with Shrek 4 (Shrek Forever After) back in 2010, stand corrected because a sequel is most definitely on its way.
Following a break of almost seven years, news hit last summer that the friendly monster is wading through the swamp toward us once again in Shrek 5, with the next instalment scheduled to arrive in 2019. But first, here's a little reminder of what got the animation ball rolling in the first place back in 2001:
While on a press tour for their new Dreamworks movie Trolls, Shrek series alumni Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn revealed some rather fascinating snippets of information about the future of our favorite green ogre. Mitchell said:
"They’ve got a pretty good story. It’s being written by Michael McCullers who wrote all of the Austin Powers films. He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring."

Dohrn then chimed in:
"There’s more story to tell there, and we’re ready to help tell it for sure."
Yeah, baby! The guy behind Austin Powers is writing the Shrek sequel? Mike Myers (Shrek's voice) must be very pleased to see this collision of two worlds take place. We can't wait.
