The Season 3 premiere of The Flash is almost upon us and anticipation couldn't be higher. When we last saw Barry Allen, he traveled back in time to save his mother and started a chain of events that would result in dramatic changes within the timeline. With the series adapting the universe-altering comic book storyline Flashpoint for its third season, big changes are on the way for Barry and his friends.

However, we recently learned that Flashpoint event may only take place during the Season 3 premiere, with the following episodes dealing with its aftermath. Thankfully, Barry will have some help dealing with the ramifications of his actions as recently released photos for the second episode of the season have revealed the surprising return of Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-3.

The veteran Flash, portrayed by the incomparable John Wesley Shipp, was last seen in the Season 2 finale traveling to Earth-2 alongside allies Harrison and Jesse Wells before hopping back to his home on Earth-3. But with everything turned upside down, Garrick's return couldn't have come at a more apt time. Based on the photos and earlier trailers, it seems like he may act as a source of wisdom for Barry as he deals with the effects of Flashpoint. But more importantly, Garrick's involvement in Flashpoint could point to a bigger team-up between The CW's speedsters.

Will We See All Three Flashes Together?

Barry Allen is not the Flash in the Flashpoint timeline, but thankfully the new version of Central City has Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash, to keep it safe. We know that Barry and Wally will team up during the season premiere, followed by a Barry/Jay team-up in Episode 2. Perhaps Jay Garrick will arrive in the Flashpoint timeline to help Barry find his way back to where he came from. If that's the case, it's possible that he could end up crossing paths with Kid Flash, bringing us DC Comics's three greatest speedsters for the first time outside of animation.

In the comic books, Jay Garrick was the original Flash before Barry Allen. Later on, Wally West took on the mantle of Kid Flash before adopting the title of the Flash after Barry's death. There's a unique theme of legacy when it comes to DC's top speedsters, and the possibility of seeing Garrick, Allen and West together on-screen in their outfits, even just for a second, would certainly make loyal comic book fans very happy.

An alliance between Barry Allen, Jay Garrick and Wally West might only be the beginning of the story. If Garrick is responsible for helping Barry find his way back home, he could also be the catalyst for the birth of a new speedster team.

Remember, last season we saw the main timeline's Wally West and Earth-2's Jesse Wells hit by a wave of dark matter, and we have yet to see the after effects of that encounter. It was Jay who took Jesse and her father Harrison Wells back home to Earth-2, and his sudden return could be linked to the return of Jesse. We know that actress Violett Beane is returning as Jesse for Season 3, and wouldn't be surprised if she follows Jay back into Barry's life. Perhaps Jay has news about her condition which could lead to her following in the footsteps of her comic book counterpart and becoming the speedster Jesse Quick.

The timeline-hopping Jay Garrick could also help bring Flashpoint's Kid Flash to the main timeline. And if that doesn't happen, Jesse's return could be used to help the main timeline's Wally become Kid Flash. He was hit by dark matter too, and maybe it will imbue him with some super-speed. If either of these situation were to happen were to happen, we could see Jay Garrick teaming up with Barry Allen, Wally West and Jesse Quick to form a superteam filled with super speed.

Is A Speed War Coming?

With the Rival wreaking havoc in the Flashpoint world, the arrival of the deadly Black Racer and return of the Reverse-Flash on Legends Of Tomorrow, there is plenty of evil in the Arrowverse to warrant a team-up of heroic speedsters. But their most deadly threat might come in the form the villainous Savitar — a speedster who, in the comic books, named himself after a God and gained a cult following that he tried to turn into speedsters.

In the comics, the villain hated all other speedsters and wanted to take their powers for himself. With confirmation that Savitar is coming to The Flash, he could very well start a war of speedsters that our heroes will need to come together to defeat.

Teasing the inclusion of Jay Garrick might not seem like a big deal, but it opens up the possibility of an epic Flash we never expected to see. And with the impending threat of Savitar, we could very well see all of The CW's heroic speedsters team-up to protect the Speed Force and save the Multiverse from destruction. And even if that doesn't happen, we're happy to see Barry and Jay join forces yet again.
