Calling all fans of 1980s #Spielberg and the Mystery Machine! We are Chicago-based filmmakers brewing up a healthy dose of retro-inspired horror and comedy with a new film called Journey to Burger Town. The film features Second City and iO alums, exploding werewolves, and is seeking funding for a feature film on Kickstarter.

How'd We Get There? Our Inspiration To Make A Horror-Comedy Film

We are interested in producing a classically inspired horror-comedy film, drawing influences from #JohnCarpenter, the earlier work of Steven Spielberg, and effects artist Ray Harryhausen (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Clash of the Titans). In making a feature film, we would like to stay 85 percent practical in designing our special effects.

There's a feeling you get when you watch Spielberg's films — like anything can happen, even in the most ordinary of places. Whether that's a pirate treasure buried underneath Astoria, an electrician from Indiana trying to make contact with extra-terrestrials, or in our case, a group of kids who find out the local theater is more than it seems.

While Journey to Burger Town draws influence from earlier Spielberg films, we believe our movie will carry a unique tone, as a result of its blend of #adventure, #horror, and #comedy.

As an example, there's a scene in our proof of concept where our gang sort of "snoops" through the graveyard. We really wanted this to look over-the-top, as if these five characters were actually Laurel and Hardy, or the gang from #ScoobyDoo.

Support Our Journey To Burger Town!

So far, we have been really happy with everyone's reaction to the film. We received a "Project We Love" badge on the first day of our campaign, have been accepted into the Grindhouse Planet Film festival, and have even been featured in The A.V. Club.

Rather than a traditional #Kickstarter pitch video, we have launched our campaign with a proof-of-concept film, which gives you a small but jam-packed glimpse into what our feature film would provide. Basically, if you like what we have done with a slim budget, we promise to delight with a full-length and fully funded feature film.
