Casting has already begun on the Netflix and Legendary TV reboot of the cult sci-fi TV series, Lost in Space. Deadline reports that Black Sails actor, Toby Stephens has secured the lead role, with Sense8 actor Maxwell Jenkins also scooping a lead part.

Back in June, Netflix announced plans to reboot the 60s sci-fi series, ordering a 10-episode first season to premiere in 2018. Netflix confirmed the series would once again center around the Robinson family, who are forced to come together after being stranded light years from their destination. Not only will the family battle obstacles in a new alien environment, but also deal with their own personal demons.

Toby Stephens will be playing the patriarch of the family, expedition commander John Robinson, who was initially played by Guy Williams. In the original series, Robinson was an astrophysicist who specialized in applied planetary geology. Meanwhile Maxwell Jenkins will be playing Robinson's son, Will Robinson, a role originally belonging to Billy Mumy. In the 1960s series, Will was a 9-years-old child prodigy, gifted with electronics and computers.

Regardless of whether you ever watched the original series, readers of all ages will likely remember the character Will Robinson from the famous Lost in Space quote "danger, Will Robinson!"

Stephens and Jenkins join actress Taylor Russell in the series, who was confirmed in the role of John Robinson's eldest daughter, Judy Robinson, earlier this week. 22-year-old Russell is probably best known for her roles in The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story and TV series Falling Skies.

The original 1965 version of the series was set 30 years in the future (in 1997), in a time when the US was attempting to colonize deep space. The Robinson family (comprising of John and Maureen Robinson and their three children, Judy, Penny and Will) were selected to journey for over five years to a planet that can sustain life. The family were joined by pilot, U.S. Space Corps Major Donald West, however after enemy agent Dr. Zachary Smith sabotages the mission, the ship is thrown off course, leading to the group being lost in space.

The reboot of Lost in Space is being written by feature writing team Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter), with Zack Estrin (Prison Break) acting as showrunner. The first season will consist of 10 episodes and is slated for a 2018 release,
