Vin Diesel has the high hopes of a diehard street racer when it comes to Fast 8's award-winning potential. He's particularly invested in director F. Gary Gray, who Diesel feels lost out on Oscar recognition for his rap biopic Straight Outta Compton. Opening up to ET, Diesel said of Gary Gray:
"I think he went into making this movie with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder, going 'Oh, really? OK. Now I'm going to take the biggest saga in the world, and I'm about to throw Oscars at you. Wait till you see what he does!"
Fast 8 will have a hard act to follow after the intensely emotional climax of Furious 7.

Vin Diesel is hyped for Fast 8 and its new, more raw tone:
"'Fast 8' is different. It's very dark. My character is conflicted in a way that is really going to shock you. He's coming off of a lot of emotion from 7 and the loss that 7 represents.
December 11, every screen in Times Square will be playing the trailer, and it's going to hit you like a ton of bricks. Everything is going to make sense."
We'll have to wait until April 14, 2017 to see if Fast 8 can live up to Vin Diesel's expectations. What do you think, Fast fans?
