Vampire housemates (Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Jonathan Brugh) try to cope with the complexities of modern life and show a newly turned hipster (Cori Gonzalez-Macuer) some of the perks of being undead.

What We Do In The Shadows was written, directed by, and starring Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. It was a received extremely well by both critics and fans receiving a 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes! It also was financially profitable, grossing $6.9 million on a $1.6 million budget. It seems perfectly logical that the property would continue in one form or another. Well, how does both a TV spin-off series and a sequel sound?

The answer to that riddle is: That sounds fucking amazing! Both the spin-off and the sequel will be developed by Clement and Waititi, which should make fans of the original film breathe easy. It is of note that both new properties will not follow the original characters, but instead follow some side characters we were introduced to in the film. Let's go ahead and check out what these new projects will be.

Paranormal Event Response Unit

The TV show will be titled Paranormal Event Response Unit. It will follow the adventures of Officer Mike Minogue and Officer Karen O'Leary (These are the actual names of the actors as well as the characters) whom we met briefly in the film as they try to protect and serve the people of Wellington, New Zealand from the many supernatural threats that go bump in the night. It will be shot in the form of a "police reality series" in the style of Cops. This follows the mockumentary style of the original film and makes perfect sense.

The show has been green lit by New Zealand On Air (NZOA) who will to fund the series with a $1.4 million budget. The have a six episode order that will air on TVNZ 2 in New Zealand. Chief Executive Jane Wrightson of NZOA gave her stamp of approval on the series stating:

We don't quite know yet when it will make its way to the rest of the world. Taika Waititi is currently very busy doing a small indie film titled Thor: Ragnarok, which is apparently more important than the What We Do In The Shadows properties, so we may be waiting quite a while. Yes, it is a bummer, but Thor is probably going to be awesome.

We're Wolves

We will take our leave from our vampire flatmates to enter the world of everyone's favorite pacifist werewolves. The sequel is currently in the works, with both Waititi and Clement writing this installment in the universe. Rhys Darby will return as Anton, everyone's favorite pack leader and we are relieved; it just wouldn't work as well if he did not reprise this role. It has to be noted that this film has the most delightfully pun-derful name imaginable and very little details have been released.

As far as a sequel not based on the main characters, this was the best choice. In a already hilarious movie, Darby and his wolf pack pile more laughs on top, just when you didn't think that was possible. As stated before, Taika Waititi has to finish his movie about a long-haired girl with a hammer (Thor: Ragnarok) before we get this film. Let's all do a little prayer that Marvel doesn't swallow him up and he gets to move on to more important projects.

We will come to learn that waiting is indeed the worst part. We don't know when these projects will be coming down the pipeline. We do know that Thor: Ragnarok is coming out November 2017, so that's probably when the ball will star rolling on these two properties. Until then you can re-watch What We Do In The Shadows to your heart's content and continue to do your dark bidding on the internet!
