It's been a great year for Wonder Woman. The character celebrates her 75th birthday, Gal Gadot made her first appearance as the super heroine in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, we got a sneak peek of her solo film in the Comic-Con trailer, former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter joined the cast of Supergirl and Wonder Woman became the UN ambassador. However, even all of that excitant couldn't ave prepared us for the release of a brand new trailer for Wonder Woman — the upcoming feature film starring Gal Gadot.

If you loved the first trailer that was released earlier this year at Comic-Con then you're going to love the new trailer which gives us much more detail about the plot of the film and the relationships between the characters. If you're as ecstatic as we are then stick around and we'll go through the most important moments from the trailer and how they will likely play into the movie.

Modern Day Wonder Woman

There has been a lot of focus on the fact that Wonder Woman will be very much a period piece set during the first World War. It's definitely a great move for DC as so much of the character's importance comes from a time period when women weren't seen as equals — she is a one of a kind.

However, one of the most important things about the new trailer is that it opens with a segment set in modern day, as you can tell through the use of modern buildings, the backdrop and her very 21st century style of clothing. This is clearly suggesting that not all of the film takes place in the past. For some reason, Diana seems reflective as she clutches onto the picture seen In Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice — perhaps the story of the film is told in retrospect as Diana looks back on her origin.

Moreover, she talks about how she "used to want to save the world." The words "used to" certainly suggests that her values have changed, but why we are not sure. Perhaps it's because of Superman's apparent death or maybe there is a much larger threat looming. I guess we'l have to wait and see.

Diana And Steve Trevor's Relationship

In the original comic and the Lynda Carter led TV series, Diana stumbles upon Steve Trevor who crash landed on Themiscrya/Paradise Island. The new trailer for the film shows that the film has went in a slightly different direction — Diana actually rescues Steve from the water — making her responsible for saving his life, which is likely what sparks the potential for a romantic relationship. There is a lot to discuss about the trailer, but I think the relationship between the two characters came through a lot more in this trailer than the previous one.

Previous adaptations of the character origin saw Wonder Woman assume the secret identity of Diana Prince — the dowdy, uninteresting secretary of Steve Trevor. While this element is very much still a part of the film, its clear from the trailer that Steve is aware of her secret identity. In fact, it's looking more and more as if he knows her as Diana before she becomes Wonder Woman.

I find it admirable that the film has gone in a different direction and it definitely allows for a more romantic relationship to develop between the two characters in such a short space of time. There is always the possibility that a future Wonder Woman film may not be set in the same time period so removing the identity barrier will allow the approbate time for the two characters to fall in love.

Steve's Mission

One of the most important points in the trailer is when Steve has an audience with the Amazons. Here, he tells them that his mission is to stop the "war to end all wars." These words clearly affect Diana who is seen quarreling with her mother about how she cannot sit idly by and watch "while innocent lives are lost."

It is likely Steve's words mixed with the invasion of her island that sparks Diana's need to help Steve and the Americans out. It is likely these words that cause her to don the tiara and become Wonder Woman.

Superhero Suit Up

Every good superhero movie has a superhero suit up moment. Who could forget when Michael Keaton dons the Batman outfit in both Batman and Batman Returns? Or when Lynda Carter put on the Wonder Woman outfit for the first time in the classic TV series?

You'll be pleased to hear that the trailer shows snippets of Diana putting on the famous red, white and blue outfit for the first time. We see Diana lifting the shield and taking the sword. It's an awesome moment. Be honest, you got goosebumps too.

The Threats, Weapons And Foes

Steve makes it clear to Diana that there is the threat of a destructive war, but we also get the opportunity to see some of the villainous foes that will rear their ugly heads in the film. The creepy lady with the mask — who we first laid eyes on in the Comic-Con trailer — seems obsessed with some of the new weapons featured in the film and American Horror Story's Danny Huston is featured rather prominently and it becomes apparent that he is one of the real bad guys.

With technology that could cause problems, it's becoming apparent that Wonder Woman is needed more than ever. If the weapons and technology are extremely dangerous, I wonder if they'll be featured again at some point in the DCEU — Wonder Woman does take place many years before Batman V Superman after all.

Wonder Woman has such a large variety of villains that haven't really been featured on screen before so I'm really looking forward to watching the DCEU bring some of the lesser known comic book characters to life.

The Bullets And Bracelets Make Diana A Very Good Secretary

I'll admit, the inner Wonder Woman fan within me screamed when Diana whipped out the old bullets and bracelets technique during the trailer. In Batman V Superman we saw her divert blasts of energy with her worn out bracelets but to see her simply deflecting of gunfire was pretty awesome.

I'm a huge fan of the character and I used to love watching Lynda Carter's version of the character diverting bullets with her bracelets so to see this element very much intact in the new film fills me full of joy. Batman has batarangs, Superman has heat vision but for Wonder Woman, her trademarks is the bracelets — admit it, you felt it too.

Diana's Athleticism And Fighting Abilities

There are many different comic versions of Wonder Woman, but one thing we've never really seen translated to screen is the character's athleticism, her Amazonian skills and her Greek God heritage.

In a two minute trailer, it appears that Warner Bros. and Gal Gadot have managed to pull off Diana's unique abilities really well. Between her flying through the air and using her golden lasso to take out the enemies, Diana is nicely skilled and her abilities are going to make the fight scenes within the movie much more enjoyable to watch. We've seen in previous trailers just how awesome her fighting ability is and the new trailer has made me even more excited for the film.

The new trailer for Wonder Woman has managed to increase the fans' excitement as we approach the film's release next year. If we've learned anythiNg from this new trailer it's that Gal Gadot is going to do an amazing job as the titular character and if the film is half as good as this trailer suggests it is then boy are we in for a treat! I'm sensing that the DCEU might even win over the critics with Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman is due for release in June next year. What was your favorite moment from the new trailer? Tell me in the comment section below.
