Spidey swings his way back onto the big screen, darker than ever!
Marc Webb’s rebooted franchise has brought fans a more faithful adaptation of the original comic books than the previous Spider Man films by Sam Raimi, particularly regarding the film’s love story. After meeting Peter Parker’s original love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in 2012’s The Amazing Spider Man, speculation is high that Webb will continue to follow the original comic book love story all the way to Gwen’s tragic death. Shailene Woodley has already been cast as familiar love-interest Mary Jane Watson, suggesting that this film establishes her as a rival love interest.
Another familiar character making his first appearance in Webb’s films is Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), the son of Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), aka The Green Goblin. With both Harry and Mary Jane officially part of the film’s cast of characters, chances are that Webb is looking to follow the original comic-book plot pretty closely. Whether or not this means that Gwen’s original killer, the Goblin, will also reappear is tough to say, as a different villain has already been confirmed for the film. This time around, Parker will be facing off against Maxwell Dillon, aka Electro (Jamie Foxx), a character from the original comics who goes from supersmart electrician to mutant supervillain, and Rhino (Paul Giamatti), whose rather dim intelligence is outweighed by his incredible physical strength.
