Crazy Heart director and Christian Bale team up for this gritty revenge thriller!

Out of the Furnace tells the story of Russell Baze (Christian Bale), an ex-con who after he served his time in prison returns to his family, living in conomically depressed Rust Belt. After his brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) is killed in connection to a gambling debt, he sets out for revenge.

The Furnace script was at one point titled The Low Dweller. It landed on place number five of the prestigious Black List of unproduced screenplays in 2008. Leonardo DiCaprio was set to star, with Ridley Scott set to direct. When Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) took over directing duties he also gave the screenplay a rewrite.
