Filming

Wolverine’s adamantium claws clash with samurai steel in Japan!

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) travels to Japan to train with a samurai warrior in his quest to find inner peace and bring some meaning to his long existence. But when he begins a forbidden romance with an engaged woman, he enters a battle with her samurai-sword-wielding family. The Wolverine is set to be a tangled web of heartbreak, betrayal and dishonor and promises a brand new visual aesthetic.

The main villain of this film, Kenuichio Harada aka The Silver Samurai is played by Will Yun Lee. In the classic 1982 comic series, on which The Wolverine is based, Harada is a mutant and the brother of Wolverine’s love interest, Mariko, played by newcomer Tao Okamoto. Both are the children of Yakuza boss Shingen Harada, played by Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai, Lost). Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) has been confirmed to play the role of the villainess Viper, a woman from Wolverine’s past who will add to the mayhem.

With The Wolverine set to be the first film of the X-Men franchise to be released in 3D, it seems audiences will be getting up close and personal with those razor-sharp talons!
