UPDATE: The New York Post is now reporting that a CGI rendering of Hoffman is also on the table as a possible replacement for the fallen legend.
Following the recent, tragic death of Catching Fire star Philip Seymour Hoffman, it might seem like bad timing to think about the future of the Hunger Games franchise...
However, as readers of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novels already know, Hoffman's character Plutarch Heavensbee takes on an increasingly significant role in the story in the upcoming final two movies in the series, Mockingjay - Part 1 and Mockingjay - Part 2.
Lionsgate recently broke their silence to offer their respects to the thesp, and their condolences to his long-time girlfriend, Mimi O'Donnell, and his three children. They also reported that the majority of Hoffman's scenes for the remaining movies had been finished, with just 7 days left to shoot on Mockingjay - Part 2.
They also revealed that one of the scenes written for Plutarch Heavensbee might require a rewrite in the wake of the actor's death. Lionsgate must now decide whether to use computer technology to work around Hoffman's absence, or hire someone else to fill the role.
With a different character potentially needed to fill in Hoffman's scenes, The Mirror is reporting that a number of fellow A-listers are waiting in the wings to jump on the much-coveted role. They say:
Already, studio big-wigs are ear-marking possible replacements, with Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, William H. Macy and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston in line to play the role.
Sure, as an actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman was simply irreplaceable. But after his tragic departure, who would you like to see honor his role in The Hunger Games franchise and step in to fill the void? Is it even possible? Let me know what you think in the comment section below!
