's The Conjuring was the best horror film of 2013, hands down. However, given the fact that it came out the same year as Insidious: Chapter 2, which was also a James Wan film and was a sequel to a previous Wan flick that was also a haunted house story, when you start taking about a Conjuring sequel, keeping all these titles straight becomes difficult.
That being said, The Conjuring's significant box office returns ensured itself a followup, and now Bloody-Disgusting has the heads up that Warner Brothers has officially set the release date for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. That date? October 23rd, 2015.
Really glad to hear this for a couple of reasons. First, there was a stretch of time when studios seemed hellbent on releasing their horror titles in any month BUT October, which is about as counter-intuitive as the definition of that word allows. I want to see horror movies around Halloween, dammit!
Of course, for the last few years, this has stemmed from a gripping fear of having to compete with the Paranormal Activity franchise. Those films have, in this writer's view, run their course and it's time for Paranormal Activity to give up the ghost. Shut off the handheld camera, put the gimmicks to bed, and make room for something new (and likely better if half of the quality of the first Conjuring is maintained through the sequel).
What do you guys think?
