The Star Wars franchise already has it's fair share of ass-kicking female characters. Both Padme and Leia weren't afraid to get their hands dirty and take on the bad guys, which is even more impressive considering their hair always remained immaculate. However, it's starting to look increasingly likely that Star Wars: Episode VII will give us our first light-sabre wielding leading lady.

The suggestion of a female protagonist has been around for some time, several months ago Geek Tyrant got their hands on some insider information which reported:

There are two trilogies planned, all following an original overview by Lucas, which was always planned as a multi-generational saga. Movies 10 - 12 are from my understanding about the offspring of the Skywalkers, set many years later with the surviving cast playing much older versions of themselves and featuring a female protagonist named Skywalker. This is something that I understand is being discussed as the latest trilogy may end up being an amalgamation of the two using themes and ideas from both, but still keeping the general story, also allowing for continuity of cast.

All this doesn't sound too certain, does it? However, a recent tweet by SlashFilm's Peter Sciretta has added extra credence to the rumor. He tweeted:

Now, it's unclear if Sciretta was just commenting on this rather old news, or whether he's privy to some secret insider information. Also, we don't know whether his lead will be one of Han and Leia's kids from the extended lore, or whether she'll be an unknown daughter of Luke Skywalker himself. Regardless, the idea of a female lead is rather exciting, right? Who do you think could play a Skywalker daughter? Get discussing below!
