Even before the end of the Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe was making a valiant effort to prove himself as an actor. He performed on Broadway, in independent dramas, psychological thrillers, and now he's likely to play his weirdest role yet.

According to Deadline, the star has expressed interest in playing the hunchback laboratory assistant Igor in director Paul McGuigan's upcoming Frankenstein re-imagining.

The movie, which is said to put a sci-fi spin on the classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment, actually has Igor as the main character, so it's not like Radcliffe would just be running around in the background.

There have been over half a dozen Frankenstein adaptations in the works for some time now, ranging from I, Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy, to Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein project, which may or may not still be a thing.

But, this one seems to have an edge. It is penned by Max Landis (Chronicle) and helmed by McGuigan, who's the directing genius behind BBC America's Sherlock and Lucky Number Slevin. Plus, it's something different for Radcliffe. Take this project along with Kill Your Darlings and the forthcoming Horns, and he's got quite a twisted career so far. Good?
