Emma Watson In The Frame For 'Cinderella'
Disney may have found its Cinderella, with Emma Watson being lined up by the studio to play the character with a penchant for losing footwear. Variety is reporting that the Harry Potter alum is in early negotiations to star in the live-action adaptation, which is being directed by Kenneth Branagh and also stars Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.
It hasn't been the easiest of productions for Disney's latest fairy tale to get the big screen treatment. Mark Romanek was originally slated to direct the movie, but his vision of a darker, more grittier Cinderella was met with stiff resistance from the studio, who turned to British thesp, and Thor helmer Kenneth Branagh instead. Watson was not the only actress under consideration for the lead either, as Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Gabriella Wilde were all linked to the project at one time or another.
It's been a successful few months for Watson as she looks to transition away from the Potter franchise. She was tremendous in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and has apocalyptic comedy This Is the End, Sofia Coppola's latest The Bling Ring and Your Voice in My Head all getting a release this year. Busy lady.
Cinderella is due to start production in the fall and is slated for release in 2014.
