The Marvel movie-making juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down with studio chief Kevin Feige admitting that they have movies laid out through 2021. In a revealing interview with Wired.com Feige admitted:

I could arguably say what we’re planning for the year 2021. Will that happen? I don’t know. But what we planned for 2015 in 2006 is happening.

Later in the article Feige also revealed that right now he's "coordinating at least a half-dozen films in various stages of production, making sure their individual arcs serve the overall direction." Marvel has five movies that have been officially announced, with Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy all set for release within the next 12 months. Following that we can expect both The Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Ant-Man to arrive in 2015, with the final confirmed project, Doctor Strange still awaiting a release date but slated to land in 2016.

So the question is, what's Marvel's plan post Doctor Strange? We can probably expect sequels to Thor and Captain America and if Guardians of the Galaxy is a success I imagine we'll also be seeing more of Star Lord and his gang. A Black Panther movie has been mooted for a while so that could be the next cab of the rank for the MCU, with rumors also circulating that Hulk could get another chance to get angry in a stand-alone. Beyond that though I'm not sure. Could we get a Ms. Marvel movie or might Luke Cage get a slice of the MCU pie?

I admire Marvel/Disney's commitment to creating a viable superhero universe and their planning and foresight has been exceptional. That being said, I do worry that audiences might suffer from superhero burnout. Despite superhero movies currently riding the quest of a very lucrative wave, it's inevitable that a time will come when audiences have simply had enough of caped crime fighters saving the world. Eventually all fads come to an end and perhaps Feige's biggest challenge will be keeping audiences engaged and invested in the characters in the years to come.

What say you? Is it realistic to expect Marvel to still be making commercially successful movies in 2021 or do you think superhero movies have a limited shelf life? Debate away in the comment section below.
