Why Jensen Ackles is my choice to play the Flash

I know that there isn’t a lot of talk about a live action Flash movie on moviepilot or anywhere else for that matter. However, with a possible Justice League movie on the horizon I think that this is the perfect time to write about MY choice for the Flash Character. First of all, let me be clear that I don’t particularly care if his Secret ID is Barry Allen, Wally West, Jay Garrick, or Bart Allen (though the last two would be strange choices). I just want to see a better live action Flash than the old TV show of the 1990’s. Don’t get me wrong, John Wesley Shipp did what he could with the tools given him, but the writing was awful and it just wasn’t the right time IMO for a superhero show. If that show was made today with the caliber of writing that goes into the Marvel movies and cartoons of any kind, it would be a hit. But, who should play the role of the Flash? In my opinion it is Jensen Ackles. Let me explain my reasoning.

First of all, if you have someone playing the Flash or any comic character in movies or on TV they have to LOOK like a Superhero and they have to be able to ACT the part. Let me tell you a little about Jensen Ackles' resume. First of all, He was on Days of our lives and was nominated for 3 CONSECUTIVE day time Emmy awards and won the Soap Opera Digest award as best Male Newcomer at the beginning of his acting career. Second- he has played on Smallville as the Assistant football coach and Lana Lang’s love interest (he was offered the role of Clark Kent before Tom Welling and turned it down for another role) and on Dark Angel (first as an insane serial killer and then as the sane brother of that character). He also voiced Jason Todd/Red Hood on the animated movie, Batman: Under the Red Hood and he currently plays on the Supernatural TV show. So, he knows and appreciates the material and can act the part.

Thirdly- thanks to Comic Artist, it is almost Impossible to cast a person in a superhero movie or TV show because all of the superheroes are built like personal trainers or bodybuilders and are almost all tall (at least 6’0 or more for men, and women have to be about 5’ 8”or taller & don’t even get me started on the women’s builds). Luckily, Jensen Ackles is just over 6’ 1” tall and in great shape. According to his IMDb page he was planning on becoming a physical therapist before deciding on an acting career. It also helps my argument that he looks a lot like John Wesley Shipp does/did in his younger days.

This is also one of the reasons I said they could do a movie with either Barry Allen or Wally West. How simple would it be to have John Wesley Shipp in a supporting role as either Jay Garrick (since he now has the salt and pepper hair going on) mentoring Jensen Ackles, Barry Allen or have them dye John’s hair and let him be Barry Allen doing the Infinite Crisis story (or part of it) and then have Jensen come in as Wally West and take over the mantle of the Flash for the JLA movie? If you don’t believe that they look like they could be uncle and nephew, check out my picture and see if you agree.

There you have it folks, my choice for the Flash in any medium they choose to do it in. After looking at my photo of them side by side and reading my argument for his taking the role, what do you think?
