Disney reveals details on Indiana Jones 5 and Star Wars: Episode 7

by Posted on

Disney's Chairman Alan Horn has revealed that the Star Wars: Episode 7 script won't be completed until January and that there is no story for Indiana Jones 5 as yet and thus the movie is still at least two years away from happening.

Here's what he said on the future exploits of the snake-fearing, fedora-clad archaeologist:

We haven't done anything. We don't have a story. We need a story... It didn't make sense to produce the movie at Disney and then have it be distributed and marketed by Paramount.

It was rumored that Harrison Ford only agreed to reprise his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode 7 if Disney would make Indiana Jones 5 with the 71-year-old actor in the leading role. Could that have contributed to the Star Wars delays? What d'you think?

Still, Horn revealed that the plan is still in place to release a Star Wars flick every year, saying that the Star Wars: Episode VII script should be due in January. The lack of a completed script for Episode VII isn't really that surprising, since J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over the writing duties last month. But with shooting scheduled to begin next spring, and no cast members announced yet, it seems this production is already behind schedule before principal photography begins.

Horn continued by commenting on his relationship with George Lucas, founder of Lucasfilm - the production company between both Indiana Jones 5 and Star Wars Episode 7:

We are proceeding as the folks who own the company, but he's George Lucas and I'm sure we'll be in conversations with him.

I'm expecting to hear something more solid surrounding Star Wars: Episode VII at the beginning of the new year. What are your thoughts on Horn's revelations? Do his words make you more confident about the future of both franchises? Sound off below!
