Riddick storms to top of DVD charts, could we see a Riddick 4?
Did you hope to see a Riddick 4 any time soon? Well, I'm not here to tell you it's definitely happening, but there has been some slightly good news in that direction.
Vin Diesel's latest sci-fi outing, Riddick, performed lukewarmly with critics, but still managed to rack in $98 million on a budget of $38 million. If those figures aren't enough to get studio heads excited, then its DVD sales sure are.
Riddick has just stampeded to the top of the DVD charts, finally unseating Despicable Me 2 from it's five week reign in the pole position. Riddick also beat Lee Daniels' The Butler and horror remake Carrie to the take the DVD sales crown.
Although it did perform well in theaters, action orientated flicks such as Riddick also do well on home-release. If it can continue to rack in money, it's going to be extremely persuasive for a potential Riddick 4. Personally, I think the character has kind of run its course, but if there's one thing I've learned about Hollywood, it's that studio executives won't stop until they've flogged every last cent out of a franchise.
Currently there are no solid plans to revive Riddick for a fourth movie, although the ending of the last movie certainly didn't rule out the possibility of a Riddick 4.
What do you think? Would you like to see a Riddick 4, or is it time for Vin Diesel to bury the character? Let us know below.
