POINT BREAK REMAKE: And Johnny Utah is....!
"Who?" I hear you ask.
Well this young Australian actor has recently made the move to Hollywood following his stint on Australian soap, Home and Away, and starred in G.I. JOE: RETALIATION as the Cobra Commander. Right. Recently he has made the headlines for being Selena Gomez's shoulder to cry on, following her split with Justin Bieber.
But back to the movie. We already found that Gerard Butler was going to take over the role of the surfer Bodhi, made famous by Patrick Swayze, but no one knew who was going to replace Keanu Reeves. Word has it that Reeves has no interest in even making a cameo for the remake.
So step in Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah, the former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback and rookie FBI Agent, on a mission to uncover the players in a local bank robbery ring.
The new film is going to be directed by Ericson Core (Invincible), with the script rewritten by Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall). According to Joblo, the plot will be similar to that of its 1991 counterpart, but instead of the main focus being on surfing being the focus it will be 'extreme sports' instead. Have to say I'm a little disappointed that they wont be using surfing in the film, as that's basically how the original got its name (Point Break refers to the surfing term 'point break', where a wave breaks as it hits a point of land jutting out from the coastline). Though I guess Gerard Butler might make a more convincing extreme sports enthusiast, rather than surfer. What do you think?
